How to Make a Diaper Cake – Part 2
I got many responses to my previous post called How to Make a Diaper Cake.
It seems that I’m not the only one to find this task to be more difficult than one could expect, and more than one reader said he also ended up with a Diaper Cake from hell.
Another thing that made me feel good about my previous post is that many readers who followed my advice and took the How to Make a Diaper Cake Video Tutorial actually sent mail and thanked me for the tip.
Although I still believe that the How to Make a Diaper Cake Video Tutorial is the easiest way, I’m adding a gallery page to help those who try to make a diaper cake on their own.
I believe that when you see the final product, you are half way to understand how to make a diaper cake.
So, I hope you’ll enjoy the gallery and find inspiration for your diaper cake.

As you can see from the Monkey Diaper cake, There’s more than one answer to the question “How to make a Diaper Cake”
Notice the diapers shape, the diapers are not being tied separately, but being placed in an order that makes a flow pattern.
I never managed to make it right before watching the How to Make a Diaper Cake Video Tutorial, but now most of the diaper cake I make are with this pattern.

For me, the “How to make a diaper cake video tutorial” made all the difference, and after watching it I can make the kind of diaper cakes you see above.

Childrens Birthday Cakes
The big day approaches, you have everything planned, and now you have to make your Childrens Birthday Cakes.
Unlike other birthday cakes, when it comes to childrens birthday cakes the cake’s theme is most important.
You don’t want to give your child a cake shaped as yesterday’s hero; it has to be updated, colorful, and beautiful enough to be the talk of the class.
Unlike other sections at The Cook Duke, on this section you’ll not find recipes and baking instructions, but you’ll be able to browse through dozens of Childrens Birthday Cakes for Inspiration.
Many of these pictures have full instructions on The Cook Duke’s Birthday Cake Ideas section.

Pirate Ship Cake
|
Pirate Ship Cake Ingredients:
*2 baked 9″ or 10″ round cakes
*3 to 4 cups of chocolate icing
|
. . |
 |
Pirate Ship Cake Decorations:
- Chocolate wafer sticks
- Milk chocolate wafer rolls
- A few pieces of white or off-white paper
- 3 10″ wooden skewers
- Malted milk balls
- Rolo candies
- Root Beer Barrels
- Plastic Pirate figures
How to make the Pirate Ship Cake
- Cut the cakes in half and layer them, rounded sides all facing the same direction, adding a thin coat of chocolate icing between the layers
- Trim the bottom curves of the cakes slightly to help them sit flat, then turn the cakes upright, as shown. (Tip: If necessary, wrap the cakes in plastic and chill in the freezer to make them firmer. Also, two drinking straws stuck through the four layers of cake will help keep them together)
- Cover with the chocolate icing, then create planking lines along the hull with a butter knife. Chill at least one hour to firm the icing
- Use dabs of icing to anchor wafer stick gunwales along the edge of the deck
- Press the wafer rolls into both sides of the ship for cannons
- Cut sails from the paper, then slip them onto the skewers and set the masts in place
- Add malted milk ball cannonballs, plenty of Rolo gold booty, and root beer barrels, then station a few pirates to keep watch
- For safety, place the candles in the cookie cannons, far from the paper sails. In addition, make sure that the surface on which the cake rests is impervious to wax, as the burning candles will drip
Your Pirate Ship Cake will surely be a success as it’s both tasty and looking good!

If you want to take your pirate ship cake to the next level, you can decorate it using fondant, following my fondant recipe on my post called “How to make fondant“. Fondant decorated pirate ship cake can look like this:

- Follow the directions on the cake mix box to create a layer cake

- Let the cake cool completely
- Frost the cake, be sure to put a layer of frosting between the layers
- Use the Fruit flavored candy ribbons to make ribbons on the cake
- On the tails of the ribbons, make a V cut on each

- Cut a piece of the Fruit flavored candy ribbons to use as the ribbon to hold the circles all together
- Pinch the 3 largest circles together in the middle
- Place one smaller circle on either side of the pinched circles. Hold on to only the inside closest to the other circles (do not pinch in both sides)
- Run the ribbon though the circles to hold together. Pinch to adhere.
