I'm about to make this fondant recipe.
I'm going to apply edible gold leaf to some of the finishing decorations to creating "shooting stars" for a wedding cake. Have you ever tried applying gold or silver leaf to fondant? I figure it will stick on its own, but if it doesn't I'll try brushing the surface of the fondant with a little water or egg white before applying the gold leaf.

I'm also hoping the fondant will have enough structure to stand up off the surface of the cake on it's own. I saw your photo of the cake with the blue ribbons which appeared to be free standing. I figure if I let it dry out a bit it will make it stiffer. Any tips on how to achieve that effect?

Very excited about all this.

Hi Anna

10x means that the sugar powder was grained 10 times. If you cant find it, Instead of 10x you may ask for icing sugar, confectioners sugar or powdered sugar.

Happy Cooking :)

I too had a hard time finding glycerin (vegetable based) in my grocery store so I asked a manager. He had no clue what it was (this is a fairly large chain store) so he googled it for me. They did have it but it was in the 'health' section of the store. Apparently it's placed there because people use it to make soaps though I don't know what that has to do with our health section. (It's still edible though.)
